Since Apple recently released the new iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware, the iPhone Dev-Team likewise released an updated jailbreaking and unlocking tool–PwnageTool 3.1.4. It supports the iPhone 3GS OTB, iPhone 3G and 2G, and the iPod Touch 1st and 2nd Gen. PwnageTool is for Mac OS X only.

Purplera1n for the Mac has just been released by GeoHot. It has basically the same instructions as the Windows version that you can find in this video tutorial.

As I reported in an earlier article, while the Dev-Team has released Ultrasn0w to unlock the iPhone 3GS, it won’t be able to do a jailbreak. Without a jailbreak, there’s no way to use Ultrasn0w to unlock (Ultrasn0w can unlock the iPhone 3G by using PwnageTool or Redsn0w).

This is a turorial on how to use PwnageTool 2.0.2 and update your iPhone to 2.0.1. For Mac only!
Step 1. Download PwnageTool 2.0.2 here.
Step 2. Backup your iPhone to iTunes
