Waiting for iPhone Dev-Team’s Tools for iPhone OS 3.0 Firmware

by Eric Pena on June 18, 2009

The iPhone OS 3.0 Frrmware has been released by Apple officially a few hours ago. For those with unmodified iPhones, upgrading is as simple as doing an update from iTunes. But for those with unlocked and jailbroken phones, it is recommended that everyone wait for the iPhone Dev-Team to release their tools.

If you are confused which tool to use for your specific iPhone, here is the lowdown on the Dev-Team’s tools for jailbreaking and unlocking iPhones.

Updated. Thanks to MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team!

PwnageTool – Jailbreak for iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 1G. Unlock for iPhone 2G. Creates a custom IPSW to restore using iTunes (works with Apple Mac OS X only).

QuickPwn – Jailbreak for iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 1G. Works on the device directly without the creation of a custom IPSW (works with Apple Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows).

Yellosn0w – Unlocks iPhone 3G for OS 3.0.

Redsn0w – Jailbreak for iPhone 2g, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 1G, iPod Touch 2G. Unlock for iPhone 2G. Used after official update or restore (works with Apple Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows).

Ultrasn0w – Replacement for Yellosn0w to soft unlock iPhone 3G for 3.0’s baseband 04.26.08 (expected to be released any time now).

If you currently use Yellowsn0w, do not go near 3.0 in any form or else you’ll lose your cellphone until Ultrasn0w is released.
