PwnageTool 2.0.3 and Windows QuickPwn 1.50 Released

PwnageTool 2.0.3

The iPhone Dev Team has released an update to its PwnageTool that provides support for the iPhone/iPod firmware 2.0.2 5C1. You can click “Check for Updates” on your PwnageTool application or download directly here.

Note from the iPhone Dev Team:

The application SHOULD ONLY be downloaded as a .tbz file from our servers and should NOT be decompressed using the application called “the unarchiver” (this breaks permissions within PwnageTool) just use the standard OS X built in ‘Archive Utility’ to decompress. The SHA1 sum of PwnageTool_2.0.3.tbz is 91e670e0c623cd43f5e8cfbfaae6c23d98d8f31b

PwnageTool 2.0.3 is for Mac OS X only.

Windows QuickPwn 1.50

The Windows QuickPwn Beta has also been updated to version 1.50. It has a revised GUI, a fix for the YouTube app and now provides a BootNeuter support to unlock 2G iPhones; download here.

Note from the iPhone Dev Team:

QuickPwn Windows doesn’t work well with virtualization as there are some problems with the way USB resets are handled, so we wouldn’t advise trying it, we have had reports of some success with VMWare Fusion 2.0 Beta 2, but this shouldn’t be relied on, use PwnageTool instead, or wait for QuickPwn Mac.

My Note

If you have a 2G iPhone running firmware 2.0.1, there is no compelling reason to upgrade to FW 2.0.2. Even Apple is pretty vague on the changes made to the latest firmware. Most think it has something to do with improving the 3G speeds, but many feel nothing has changed after performing an upgrade. For those waiting for a 3G unlock, sorry guys, not on these tools yet. So if you have no issues with your iPhone now, better not upgrade at this time. Wait for something more exciting that should come (hopefully) soon.
