Looking for Mobileinstallation 2.2? Use AppShare and Installous in Cydia!

After upgrading your iPhone to 2.2, you found out that you can no longer run your test ipa apps that were installed using the mobileinstallation mod. So you searched the net in the hopes of finding a mobileinstallation upgrade for 2.2, right? Ok, I can give you a link to such a file (yes, it exists) that you can download and then modify your iPhone files using the tutorial I made here. Or I can show you an easier way.

Of course you want the easier way… so here’s how.

Add the hackulo.us repo (cydia.hackulo.us) to your Cydia Sources.

Install the following files:

  • miPatch
  • Installous
  • Appshare (Update: Appshare is no longer available in Cydia. Function has been integrated in Installous!)

That’s it!

Of course, if you haven’t done it already, you need to install at least one app from the App Store (a free app is ok) before you can use your test ipa apps.

Use Appshare to download or directly install from a list of ipa apps.

Use Installous to view a list of all the ipa files you have downloaded from Appshare and install what you like. download or directly install from a list of ipa apps.

From your iPhone, you can sync these apps to iTunes.

The good news is, if you have a favorite web site from which to download these ipa apps, you can still do so and copy them to iTunes. Sync with your iPhone as usual and you’re good to go!

    hey just to be clear .. do i use the phones browser to go to cydia.hackulous.us .. if so ive been doing that .. and it states to wait til cydia loads .. but its been running for like a half hour now .. how long does the process usually take ?

    You need to have a jailbroken phone to use Cydia.

    Open Cydia, click on Manage then Sources.
    Click Edit and then Add.
    Type http://cydia.hackulo.us and Add Source.
    Search for the 3 files listed on my post and install them.

    Thanks mate..Great app. Having said that, Installous is too slow and every time i download something i've to begin browsing from the start(home)..Is there any way we can resume from where we left off instead of browsing thru the whole thing

    when i shut off my phone after having used and dowload an application on installous i have a grey screen with a rectangle on the bottom of the screen.
    I cannot do anything and have to restore my i-phone
    I don't understand because everything works perfecly till ….

    cant add sources in cydia 2.x . There is no sources tab anymore

    undetermined error …

    Appshare is no longer available.

    You now only need to install Installous.

    I've installed miPatch and Installous 2.0, however, when I download an app from Appulo.us and install from Installous, the app is not showing up on springboard.

    Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?

    You should have installed an official app from the Appstore before.

    If so, try doing a reboot or installing the app again or try a different app.

    Yes. There is no single repository for these apps.

    Thanks your article above helped me, I recently upgraded Cydia, but after that I couldn't get any more apps through iTunes…I was about to panic, thinking that I wouldn't be able to get IPAs installed anymore, I simply did the app store buy/get an app and install thing first, then all went well.     I Installed all the files and when i try and download an app through installous after i hit download from rapidshare or any other website it just says error and stays on the rapidshare page. any suggestions? the download wont even start

    You need to finish your download, otherwise it will not complete and you will have to start over again.

    Use the free DiskAid to copy your downloaded .ipa file to the following iPhone root directory:

    User/Library/Downloads

    On your iPhone, install from the Downloads folder in Installous!

    will this process of installing ipa's delete all previously installed paid apps on the iphone? Do i have to begin the process with clean apps folder?

    and do i have the steps right,
    *Download and install the mobileinstallation file from the hackulous repo.
    *Download and install installuous from the hackulous repo.
    *Download and install the safari download plugin.

    With that i should be able to download and install ipa files directly to my iphone through whatever ipa website and installous?

    not all apps after installation work!! that is it installs completely and when u want to use it it kinda acts like its about to start then goes back to the iphone home page with icons on it…. some programs install correctly just that some dont esp. the expensive ones……..

    This app works great! I just upgraded to 2.2 from 1.1.2 and I feel like I've open Pandora's box here. Quick question: has anyone tried to download the ipa onto your local computer and then copying over to itunes and installing the app by syncing? I just tried and it didn't work – got the msg stating the app could not be installed b/c it couldn't be verified. Ipas that i down with Installous sync up fine. Do i have to move the ipa to User/Library/Downloads first and install thru installous. Please let me know!

    Installous problem….

    I'm facing an installation of apps/games problem , meaning after i completely download those apps/games from installous , but all those apps/games that i downloaded never appear in download section of installous……
    Kindly advice…
