Update: Ziphone 3.0 is the latest version. The procedure of jailbreaking, activating and unlocking is the same from ver 2.5.
Wow, I just upgraded my iPhone to 1.1.3 ten days ago and Apple has already released 1.1.4. If you followed my previous post, you know that I used Zibri’s fantastic iPhone software upgrade called ZiPhone. The good news is that Zibri, in just a few days, has come up with an upgrade himself to his ZiPhone to Jailbreak, Activate and Unlock 1.1.4. No doubt, as I have used ZiPhone to upgrade to 1.1.3 before, the new ZiPhone 2.5 will definitely work again for me. If it is your first time to use it, the odds that it will work also for your iPhone regardless of version, out-of-the-box or previously jailbroken and unlocked, is extremely high. Caution is only advised to those who used some other jailbreaking methods like iUnlock (need to virginize first), and some reports of WiFi not working.
So what is new with 1.1.4? Feature wise, nothing! 1.1.4 is a bug fix update, 162 Mb of code. Most people think Apple is setting the stage for the Software Development Kit, making sure that the iPhone is secure and stable before developers are finally allowed to release new iPhone applications (as if it is not already being done by 3rd party developers and the hundreds of native apps already being used on the iPhone).
Updating this guide for 1.1.4 is easy! I just copied and pasted my previous guide for 1.1.3 and replace some words as necessary. In fact, I used my 1.1.3 guide to upgrade to 1.1.4 using ZiPhone 2.5.
Prepare your iPhone for upgrading
1) Make sure to make a backup of your files by syncing your iPhone to iTunes (I used the latest version, 7.6.1) because upgrading to 1.1.4 will delete the files in your iPhone.
2) Dowload the following:
a. iPhone 1.1.4 Restore ipsw file.
b. ZiPhone 2.5 GUI , latest at this time is 2.5 (download the Windows version if you use a PC)
3) Remember which directory you placed the iPhone 1.1.4 Restore ipsw file.
4) Extract Ziphone 2.5 and open it.
Upgrade your iPhone to 1.1.4
5) With your iPhone connected to your Mac (PC), click the Summary tab in iTunes.
6) Hold the Option button on your Mac (Shift on a PC), and click Restore.
7) Navigate to where your iPhone 1.1.4 Restore ipsw file is located.
8) Start the restore and wait for about 7 mins.
9) Restore is done when you see an iTunes logo and a cable.
Use ZiPhone to Jailbreak, Activate and Unlock
10) With ZiPhone already open, select “Do it all”!
11) Click “Start Process”.
12) Wait for 2 to 3 mins for Ziphone to do its thing.
13) A dialog box asking you to check for update will pop-up so just ignore or cancel.
14) iPhone will reboot and display the home screen
15) From iTunes, restore from your previous iPhone backup or create new iPhone identity
16) Sync your other data (Music, Photos, etc.) in iTunes.
Test your iPhone and Install Applications
17) Check your iPhone to see if built-in applications and features (WiFi, YouTube, SMS, etc.) are working.
18) Open Installer and refresh Sources.
19) Download the BSD Subsytem from the Installer System folder (because this is a large file, it may fail to download initially. try and try again).
20) Install applications you like (some may not work on 1.1.4 yet).
That’s it!
