Try ChessGenius, aside from the features other chess engine have, chessgenius allows you to manually enter games and save it to a format other chess engines can read such as pgn, cbh,cbf, edp, etc. It is avail for IPhone 3G, 3GS and S60 based phones.

Shredder Chess is definitely the best app if you're new to Chess or want a way to save games or exercise your Chess skills. I've never really played chess but always wanted to learn how, so I downloaded Shredder chess and a free eBook on chess available on iTunes (Learn Chess). with these two tools, I was playing chess and actually winning games within a day. Shredder chess automatically adjusts its capabilities so that you are adequately challenged but not frustrated. The “puzzle” feature allows the user to expand chess strategies, which is really helpful for learning how to deal with difficult chess boards. Overall, this would be my recommendation for chess enthusiasts and new players. The app is very stable and has excellent graphics, as well as some customization features that are really nice.

Great review!
I would like one where I could select the opening to practice/ practice against. Any of these machines can beat me at a high level, so I don't really care about how good the chess engine is (They are all better than me).

I would also like to input a position and get move suggestions with narrative.
Any ideas?

Does any of these apps allow you to play an opponent that is not on an iphone? My dad is never going to get a an iphone but he'll play me from his computer. It would be great if these apps worked cross platform, so I can play on the iphone and my opponent can play on his computer or any device.

Anyone know of a chess app that does this well??

Hi from Dave, im 63 and been playing since i was 6, you got good list there, shredder and fritz are tops, not tried caissa or deep green, are you aware that there are also some databases and openings out there, i prefer to play human so cant beat being online, i play mostly at 'PLAYCHESS' looking for eco codes apps, will someone write one !

Would you like to try our iGrandMaster? It uses the award winning engine from PocketGrandmaster and has an user interface especially created for iPhone and iPod Touch. I think it is comparable with Deep Green Chess, but slightly cheaper :-) I may provide an evaluation code for you.

There is an alternative: Chess Problems or Chess Quest. But I don't like that Chess Quest doesn't allow you to make mistakes. So Chess Quest is just clicking around until you get rigth move. Chess Problems is good but sometimes to hard.

We came out with a Chess App 2 days ago. Its called 'Chess Elite'. I think it deserves to be here..
It gives Online game play a whole new meaning. The game uses a strong chess engine with adjustable engine strength so that the player can set the game depending on his level of proficiency.
Push Notification will be available in the next version that'll let the player know when a Challenge is received or a move is made in an online game.

I have only tried Chess Quest ($2.99) by Grandmaster Leonid Yudasin and it is quite good. It has 5 levels of difficulty with each level having 200 chess problems, enough to whack your brain and improve your game.
