soooo i know this is an old post but i just came across it and after reading it brings only one thing to mind. Whats so different between installing osx86 and for example arch linux. Both (unless you know exactly what you are doing) can be frustrating, hit and miss experiences. Both have the unkown aura of "do my components work" . "can i make them work" , "do i want to take the time to make them work" etc. please correct me if i am wrong but osx is based on bsd a close cousin to linux, the cli is damn near the same, the install is pretty much the same. If you know your hardware well enough it shouldn't be too hard. Id like to compare an install of "hackentosh" vs an install of gentoo anyday

Are you going to upgrade to Snow Leopard on your Hackintosh? I found your Leo install guide very helpful and would be interested to see your progress on SL.

-D

To add to my first comment. My setup is almost exactly like yours. I have windows 7 on one drive, and an updated OSX on a different hard drive. I currently just do the "type in 81" method to choose what to boot to. This would be a great solution to make things more user friendly for my wife...but i'm a little afraid to mess with things too much

Have you checked out the new chameleon at all? The boot screen looks pretty nice. I have had my hackintosh working for about a year thanks to your original tutorial. It would be nice to have a cleaner boot option though...worth checking out?

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?show...
