Update Your Hackintosh with OS X 10.5.5 Using Software Update

Apple has just released Mac OS X 10.5.5 Delta Update for Macs running 10.5.4, and 10.5.5 Combo Update if you are running  10.5, 10.5.1, 10.5.2, 10.5.3 or 10.5.4.

Now, you can just click Software Update on your Hackintosh just like you do on an ordinary Mac… if your Hackintosh has been installed with a Mac OS X Retail DVD with Boot-132 and Chameleon EFI that is. So you might ask, “What the hell are those?” Well, just read my other post “Hackintosh Tutorial: Install a Mac Leopard OS X Retail DVD on a PC”, and you will be on your way to your hackintosh nirvanah.

If you have been following my other hackintosh posts before or you have experimented with your own rig, then I’m sure you have tried one or many kinds of hack OS X distributions, and you know the pain in your behind when it comes to updating it to the latest OS X release. It’s either you get your hands a little dirty by following several steps that you perform with your keyboard, or wait for an update from any of the hacked distros and pray it will be a one-step process, which normally isn’t the case.

So for a long term relationship with your Hackintosh, I suggest you perform the tutorial above. If you get into trouble because you have a completely different hardware from mine, you can go to InsanelyMac’s Forums and more likely than not, someone with a similar hardware as yours has the right files that you can also use for your own rig.

As I mentioned above, you can use Software Update, or you can download any of the following and install manually.

Mac OS X 10.5.5 Combo Update (601MB)
Mac OS X 10.5.5 Delta Update (316MB)

After installing, reboot with -v -f (first time only) and you should have a perfect OS X 10.5.5 system.

Note: I also updated my MacBook Pro from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5 and it was problem free.

If you want to know what are included in this latest update, just go to Apple’s Support page.

    Does it work with Kalyway?
  • If you mean by using Software Update alone, I don't think so. You need to do the netkas procedure or wait for a 10.5.5 patch. Search for "Mysticus" in Insanelymac.com, I think he already has a patch.

You are an idiot and it is only fitting that you call yourself a "noob". What you are saying is that you can upgrade a "hackintosh" by simply choosing "Software Update" from the menu? You're only polluting Google search results with your clueless ramblings.
  • You mean you didn't know? Of course you can! People have been doing it for some time. I've done it with the 10.5.5 and 10.5.6 updates!

Read about EFI emulation and Boot-132:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSx86

Then read my post on how to do it:
    http://menoob.com/2008/09/04/hackintosh-install...

Or read all those "polluted" Google search results and maybe even a genius like you can do it like many noobs have done. LOL!
  • to install 10.5.5. directly to my PC (through the retail disc) should i just replace Step 3, with the 10.5.5 (Combo) instead of the 10.5.4?
